Foods to Avoid While you are on a Low Carb Diet

Putting a relatively low amount of Carbohydrates into your system is one of the most efficient ways of losing weight. These carb diets are also known as the ketogenic diets and have a very low Carbohydrates content, a normal amount of protein and are rich in fat content. These ketogenic diets make the body to undergo the process of ketosis which can be understood as a condition of getting energy requirements from stored fat rather than Carbohydrates.

A ketogenic diet is specifically suggested for the persons who are suffering from diabetes as low carb foods keep a check on the sugar level in blood. There are various ways to check the blood sugar level and one of the most commonly implemented methods is the use of keto strips which can check the sugar level by taking blood or urine sample. You can get the best keto strips online or from a nearby store.

There are certain foods that need to be avoided when you’re following a ketogenic diet. This doesn’t mean that eating these foods isn’t healthy or they cause any damage to a person. It’s just the high Carbohydrates content of these foods that makes them a bad option to eat on a low-carb diet. Let’s have a look on some of them:

  1. Grains and bread: Grains like rice, wheat, oats etc. have a significantly high amount of Carbohydrates in them which is why they’re not suitable for someone following a keto diet plan. Bread is also quite rich in Carbohydrates content having around 14 to 17 grams of carbs per inch. This is why it is suggested to limit the intake of bread on a low-Carb diet.
  2. Juice: Drinking juice on a ketogenic diet is one of the worst decisions because of the two reasons. One, most fruit juices are high in Carbohydrates. Two, consuming liquid carbs leads to increased appetite and thus, causing food intake which increases carb content even more. So, try avoiding juice if you’re on a low-carb ketogenic diet.
  3. Certain fruits: The names of the fruits and dry fruits which need to be avoided are banana, mango, pear, raisins, and dates. Basically, the ones that are high in carbs.
  4. Beer: While alcohol consumption is not a severe problem during the ketogenic diet, beer can turn out to be a bad choice. This is because wine and spirits have way lower Carb content than beer. Consuming beer means putting a lot of Carbohydrates into your body which is highly undesirable on a keto diet.
  5. Vegetables having starch: While being on a low-Carb diet, you need to make sure that starchy vegetables get avoided. Vegetables like corn, potato, sweet potato, beets are the ones which should be avoided because of their high Carbohydrates content. However, you can enjoy the low-Carb vegetables while being on a keto diet.
  6. Sugar products and honey: Eating sugar-containing foods can cause your keto diet to become completely ineffective. Most of the sugar products are quite low in nutrients and have a high Carbohydrates level at the same. Try to avoid honey as well because of the same reason i.e. “high Carb content”.
  7. Dairy products: Dairy products are a sure no-no on a ketogenic diet. While there are a lot of nutrients present in them, you will end up adding unnecessary carbs into your system.
  8. Chips and crackers: Most of the junk food is strictly prohibited on a low carb diet. Chips and crackers are rich in Carbohydrates content and thus, should be avoided on a ketogenic diet.

Conclusion: After the above points, now you certainly know what needs to be avoided on a low-Carb ketogenic diet.
