Sadak 2 is an upcoming and a much-awaited sequel to the critically acclaimed and super hit Hindi-language drama film, Sadak, which was released way back in the year 1991 starring Pooja Bhatt and Sanjay Dutt.
Alia Bhatt officially confirmed the news through her twitter handle on 20th September 2018 that she will be collaborating with her father, Mahesh Bhatt for the sequel.
Sadak 2 is slated to hit the silver screen on 10th July 2020, next year. The sequel is being directed by Mahesh Bhatt under the Vishesh films and has Sanjay Dutt, Pooja Bhatt, Alia Bhatt and Aditya Roy Kapur in the main lead. The film also officially marks the return of Mahesh Bhatt’s return as a director after 20 years of long hiatus.
Story Line
As per the word from the closer sources, Sadak 2 majorly deals with the growing issue of depression and its effects. It will be a gripping and intense drama, filled with the elements of love, anger, loss and redemption.
The main protagonist of the film is Ravi, who is suffering from depression. This storyline is how he finally helps a young woman (played by Alia Bhatt), who is all driven to expose a fake Godman, continuing his illicit activities in the garb of an Ashram.

On 18th May 2019, Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt took to the Instagram and Twitter, shared a picture with a heart-warming and emotional note, as the ‘Sadak 2’ finally went on the floor.
She shared a picture of the film’s clapboard, which mentioned the Day: 1, Take 1, Scene No: 1A for ‘Sadak 2’. It was beautifully backed up with a heartening note that read as:
Today is Day 1 of Sadak 2.
And that’s my father, now also my director, holding the clap.
I begin to shoot in few days and honestly, I’m petrified.
I feel like a tiny mousetrying to climb a beautiful, immense and emotional mountain.
I hope I make it to the top and if I fall I hope I’m able to get up again. It’s a tough climb but from everything I’ve seen and everything I’ve heard, every step and misstep will be worth it!

Since, Sadak 2, is going to be a sequel, references to the original blockbuster are quite natural to happen. In case you haven’t seen the first part, it is important that you get a little grip on its storyline. Here are a few important details that will not only help you get started but, will also prepare you well for what’s coming next!
‘Sadak’ was a romantic thriller film, which was inspired by the 1976 American novel named Taxi Driver. Directed by Mahesh Bhatt, starring Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt, it went on to become the 2nd highest revenue grosser of the year 1991 with an equally loved and appreciated musical score. The movie was such a huge success that later on, it was pegged as the 7th highest money grosser of the 90’s era. The film is also remembered fondly for the award-winning performance of late Sadashiv Amrapurkar, in the role of villain character named ‘Maharani’. ‘Sadak’ was later even remade in Tamil in the year 2000, titled as ‘Appu’.
Storyline and Plot of Sadak
Maharani (played by Sadashiv Amrapurkar) is shown as an evil transgender pimp who runs a brothel. He employs girls as part of his trade practice. Pooja (Pooja Bhatt) and Chanda (Neelima Azeem) are both working under him.

Ravi (Played by Sanjay Dutt) is a Taxi driver who has a history, which led him into the state of a bad depression. Ravi had a sister Roopa (Soni Razdan) who happened to elope with her lover on the pretext of marriage. However, the guy happened to be a conman who sold off Roopa to a brothel where she was forced to work as a prostitute. She is then diagnosed with STD and eventually dies a painful death. The incident leaves an indelible impression on the psyche of Ravi, leaving him traumatized. Constant visions of his sister’s death made him restless and violent, plunging him into the depths of depression.
Pooja meets Ravi in one of her taxi rides before she was brought by Maharani. Later, again Ravi meets Pooja when she’s trying to run off from the brothel. Then a long sequence of events follows where finally Pooja is rescued by Ravi, after setting Maharani and his brothel ablaze.
